The CU Art Museum, University of Colorado Boulder seeks a dynamic, creative, scholarly, and team-oriented Associate Curator of Asian Art, who will thrive in a fast-paced work environment and is well-suited for the curatorial and educational context of an innovative University Art Museum committed to excellence in both historic and contemporary exhibitions, publications, and education programs. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will contribute to the breadth, depth, and scope of the CU Art Museum's programs by directing, organizing, curating, and implementing exhibitions and related programs that cover diverse regions, time-periods, artistic traditions and cultures of Asia and that place Asian Art in dialogue with other world cultures and traditions. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will also develop interdisciplinary programs that relate Asian Art traditions from the numerous regions of Asia to thematics of the transnational and transcultural and/or that relate Asian Art to various disciplines across the arts, humanities, and sciences in keeping with the CU Art Museum's interdisciplinary mission.
The Associate Curator of Asian Art will curate, direct, and/or organize exhibitions focused on diverse traditions of Asian Art for the CU Art Museum and will conceptualize, develop and lead the implementation of related educational, publication, and publicity programs that engage and reach students, faculty, and the broader campus as well as regional, national, and international arts and academic communities as approved by the Director of the CU Art Museum and as funds permit. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will research, interpret, exhibit, and curate works of Asian Art both from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection and will also develop and curate exhibitions with works on loan from private collections and/or other museums. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will also build collaborative relationships with peer institutions to bring Asian Art exhibitions on tour to the CU Art Museum and/or to partner with peer institutions in the development of major Asian Art exhibitions. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will develop a diverse Asian Art exhibition program that presents a range of cultural and artistic traditions from across regions of Asia and will also develop programs that further the interdisciplinary mission of the CU Art Museum by placing Asian Art in dialogue with other world traditions and in dialogue with various disciplines from across the humanities, arts, and sciences.
The Associate Curator will research and interpret both in written form and in public speaking contexts exhibitions and works of Asian Art and will promote the CU Art Museum and its Asian Art programs across the campus and community as well as nationally and internationally. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will make educational use of the CU Art Museum's Permanent Collection and will engage campus faculty expertise and the expertise of guest artists, curators, and scholars nationally and internationally to develop education programs and interpret the CU Art Museum's permanent collection of Asian Art. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will build vibrant use of the museum's Asian collections for study and research in the CU Art Museum Collection Study Center.

The Associate Curator of Asian Art will work with CU Art Museum Collections/Registration Staff and Publicity Staff on projects related to the Asian Art programs including developing and maintaining the presence of Asian Art on the CU Art Museum website and public platforms of the collections database.
The Associate Curator of Asian Art will also work in concert with the Director and Collections Committee to expand the CU Art Museum permanent collection of Asian Art through the cultivation of gift funds to support acquisitions of Asian Art and the cultivation of direct donations of works of Asian Art and Asian Art collections. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will work in concert with the Director to develop a philanthropic community and raise funds to support the development of Asian Art exhibitions, acquisitions of Asian Art, and related education, publicity, and publication programs and will also seek grants in support of Asian Art programming. The Associate Curator of Asian Art will work with the CU Art Museum Director and Collections Committee to make decisions about new acquisitions of Asian Art for the CU Art Museum Permanent Collection, including undertaking research for attribution, provenance, interpretation, conservation etc.
The Associate Curator of Asian Art may also assist and/or lead the development and/or implementation of exhibitions focused on art from cultures beyond Asia as requested by the Director. The Associate Curator will assist with CU Art Museum development and fundraising projects including Galas and Benefit auctions, Fundraising Art Excursions, Salons etc. as requested by the Director.
The Associate Curator of Asian Art Supervises curatorial assistants, publicity assistants, and student assistants as needed and is supervised by the CU Art Museum Director.

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)
- A bachelor's degree and an M.A. or Ph.D. in Art History with a focus on Asian Art -OR-
A bachelor's degree and an M.A. or Ph.D. in Asian Studies or related discipline focused on Asian Art or Asian Visual/Material Culture
- Experience working in a curatorial capacity with Asian Art and experience with attribution and interpretation of historic works of Asian Art
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as strong research skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituencies including museum staff, students, faculty, donors, artists, lenders, peer curators, and the public
- Strong organizational skills including ability to manage complex exhibition project budgets, timelines, and deadlines
- Art-historical expertise and historical knowledge in the art, culture, and traditions of Central Asia, South Asia, Himalaya, and/or Southeast Asia including art-historical traditions of Hindu, Buddhist, and/or Islamic Art of one or more of these regions as well as broader knowledge of the breadth and diversity of Asian Art traditions from across Asia
- Interest in and experience relating historical Asian Art traditions to contemporary art and culture and in relating Asian Art traditions to global traditions and cultures beyond Asia
- Previous teaching experience
